VIDEO: ‘Baskerville’

In a society that tends to prefer  towards sleek designs and digital everything, it’s refreshing to discover that some folks still appreciate the fine art of print versus type, ink versus mechanical keys, people who still opt for hand-pressed prints, from invitations to wall artwork

Marigny-based artist collective studio Baskerville is restoring NOLA’s history in antiquated prints by offering a collective space for artists and patrons alike to dig in deeper to make their own ink artwork using original techniques. The studio is host to a crowd of artists and their antique machines, including the clamp letter press, one of the very first forms of print.

Rebecca Llorella, a film student in the Department of Film and Theater at the University of New Orleans, produced a short documentary focused on how Baskerville is bringing New Orleans back to the Golden-Age of the printing press and why that’s a good thing.
