The original Euclid Records store was established in 1983 in St. Louis and the sister store in was established in New Orleans in 2010. Euclid Records, in the center of the Bywater, has a great selection to offer. They have new and used records from a variety of different genres (soul, jazz, easy listening, new age, world, rock, rap/hip-hop, reggae, gospel, country, bluegrass, folk, classic etc.). Additionally, they sell used CDs and cassettes. The store occasionally hosts in store performances and meet and greets. The staff is well versed in music history and loves to talk about any record you like or are just curious about. They are open every day from 11am – 5pm!

TBC Brass Band (To Be Continued Brass Band) was formed in 2002 by a group of young men that grew up in the 7th and 9th ward of New Orleans. Before Hurricane Katrina, The Roots, an award-winning hip-hop group, took them under their wing to enhance their success. Additionally, the TBC Brass Band were the focus of the documentary “From the Mouthpiece on Back.” The movie describes the bands return to the New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Since their return, they have regrown popularity. Their upbeat music is intriguing and fun to listen to. Come see the TBC Brass Band is performing at Kermit’s Treme Mother-in-Law Lounge!

Khruangbin is a band from Houston, Texas that blends a variety of genres such as soul, dub, rock, and psychedelia. Their music is peaceful and easy to listen to. The band is made up of Mark Speer on lead guitar, Laura Lee on bass, DJ Johnson on drums. Khruangbin directly translates to “engine fly” in Thai. They chose this name because of Speer’s and Lee’s love of eastern culture. Additionally, it represents how the band aims to include a variety of cultures in their music. On December 1st, Khruangbin is performing at the Orpheum Theater. Tickets start at $56 so buy one soon to watch them perform live!

Barcelo Gardens is based in the 9th ward and is run by Ashley Webb and her husband. When the lived in Los Angeles, they had started a community garden there. However, they moved to New Orleans and started Barcelo Gardens here in New Orleans. Their goal is to bring fresh food to the 9th ward and Bywater area. They also try to support local businesses especially those with black business owners. The farmer’s market is run on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month. Come on one of these days to enjoy fresh fruit, vegetables and more!

Celebration in the Oaks is an annual celebration that was originally started in the 80s. Every year, the park is lit up in over a million lights. In addition to the light show, there will be over 18 amusement park rides. You can also experience the lights from a train ride through the park or from the top of a carousel. This year, Celebration in the Oaks will also be a drive through experience with an expected drive through time of a little more than half an hour. Come see the light show any night from November 25th to January 2nd from 5PM to the 11PM!
