You’ve Got A Right To Sing The Blues     5/25/2020

 
Waking up this morning 
everything lay heavy 
on my chest. 
 
Worry, regret, guilt, and grief 
were all stacked up and 
competing for my attention. 
 
So great was their weight 
that I doubted anything 
could give me the will to 
get out of bed…
 
Until I felt the tickle 
of my cat’s whiskers
at the edge of my ear 
as she sang to me, 
 
“You may have a right 
to sing the blues, 
but first you have to 
feed me!”
