Sure, you’ll always find comic books, kitsch, and celebrities signing autographs at Comic Con, but the main attraction, for many, seems to be the costumes.
New Orleanians are more than happy to don disguises at a moment’s notice, but here the costumed characters come with a decided sci-fi leaning – Princess Leia, Imperial Storm Troopers, and Darth Vader are all in attendance, not to mention assorted superheroes and fantasy figures.
It’s all in good fun, although some serious comics business takes place, too, like the wheeler-dealer I watched writing a check for $25,500 for just TWO rare comic books.
You’ll inevitably run into attendees who look like Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons, but here’s a look at some of the more imaginatively-dressed characters from this past weekend’s Wizard World Comic Con at the Ernest M. Morial Convention Center:
